21.12.2012 - continued
Year In Review
Despite the ongoing crisis, which has hit the worldwide golf industry hard, 2012 has been a fantastic year for Spogárd & VanderVaart. January 2012 got off to the best possible start, as we were awarded the Golf Inc. ‘Development of the Year Award 2011’ for Golfbaan Stippelberg in The Netherlands. It was a great honor receiving one of the most prestigious awards in the industry ahead of such esteemed names as Robert Trent Jones, Tom Doak and Coore & Crenshaw. Congratulations to ‘The Stippelberg’ – keep being different! Work continued on the major renovation of the BackTee New Course at Himmerland Golf & Spa Resort in Denmark. We started work during the summer of 2011 and finished during the summer of 2012. All 18 green complexes were significantly re-positioned and reconstructed – as well as all bunkers, 30 tees and a new reservoir. Himmerland hope to bring the European Tour to Denmark for the first time in more than 10 years – we look forward to seeing the best golfers in Europe take on the new layout. Another large 27 hole project in Denmark, Vejle Golf Club, was successfully completed. From 2013 golfers will be able to experience the new bunkers, tees and selected greens. By carefully analyzing the land and the existing layout we managed to reduce the amount of blind shots by 90%! We continue to work on two projects which we have underway in Portugal and Croatia – and have had approaches from several European countries during the year. Hopefully we will be able to make further announcements on some of these during 2013. During 2012 we also worked on Juelsminde in Denmark as well as Griendtsveen and Anderstein in the Netherlands. During the late summer of 2012 we were contacted by County Louth Golf Club in Ireland, which is ranked among the top 100 courses in the World (Golf Digest). Since then we have prepared concept designs to help tackle some of the issues the classic Tom Simpson designed course is dealing with. If approved, the course improvement work can commence in 2013. During 2012 we were appointed by Langesø Golf Club in Denmark to design their new 9 hole extension and undertake a renovation of the existing 9 holes. It is a fantastic piece of land and we have high hopes for the potential of the overall 18 hole golf course. The course is scheduled to open for play in 2014. Last but not least, we would like to thank you all for your support in 2012 and wish you and your loved ones a wonderful Christmas and all the best in the New Year.
